Within the city limits, head to Del Norte Street Dog Park (also known as Shark Park Dog Park) at the foot of Del Norte Street along the beautiful Humboldt Bay (1200 W Del Norte St). The park is fenced, water is available, and dogs are allowed off-leash — just make sure to clean up after your pet!
The same goes for Eureka Dog Park, at 2020 Watson Drive, which has benches for humans, a drinking fountain for dogs, and two separate areas for small and large dogs to play. Meet locals and visitors alike from sunup to sundown.

Eureka Boardwalk – Foot of F Street
Head to the edge of Eureka’s historic Old Town shopping and dining district for a stroll along the water. The boardwalk even features a doggie restroom! You’ll find multiple benches to catch a rest, and unique shopping and dining steps away.
Waterfront Trail – North end: Truesdale Avenue (just south of Bayshore Mall). South end: Pound Road.
Following the length of Eureka along the Humboldt Bay, the Waterfront Trail takes you on a 6+ mile journey through marshland with views of coastal marshland and wildlife. Bring your dog, family, and friends to enjoy the unique natural elements of Eureka.

Learn the natural history of Eureka on a tour, experience creatures such as whales and exotic fish, all while paddling through the bay or on a tour down the river with your dog.

Grab your pup (well behaved please, and best if they do their business ahead of time!) and climb aboard the Madaket to enjoy a relaxing voyage along the shores of Humboldt Bay. The M.V. Madaket, built in 1910, is the last survivor of seven original ferries that transported families and mill workers around Humboldt Bay for decades. Today it sits as the oldest passenger motor vessel in continuous service in the entire United States. Between May and October, you can hop on board for a tour and learn about local history, industries, activities, points of interest, and wildlife.
You can choose from a narrated historical cruise to learn about the history of the Humboldt Bay, including industry, points of interest (wait until you see the Carson Mansion by boat!) and wildlife (Tuesday through Saturday at 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4 p.m.; Monday at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.). Or for a more adult experience, relax on a cocktail cruise and grab a drink from the smallest licensed bar in the state of California (Tuesday through Saturday at 5:30 p.m.).

Head out west of Eureka on Highway 255 for the BLM-managed Samoa Dunes Recreation Area. The beach is dog-friendly and dogs are welcome off-leash within the wave slope if they’re under voice control. While you’re there, participate in a wide variety of activities including hiking, surfing, fishing, sightseeing, picnicking, birdwatching, beachcombing, and off-highway vehicle (OHV) use.

Fort Humboldt State Historic Park is a historic area that is situated on a bluff that looks down and across into Humboldt Bay, and includes a Logging Museum and open-air displays of historic steam-powered logging equipment that saw frequent use throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, two steam-powered locomotives, and offers a favorite local picnic spot on a grassy bluff overlooking the Humboldt Bay. Dogs on leashes are able to accompany their owners at home, though they can’t enter the buildings on site.
