After two years of being on hold, the LGBTQ+ Art Show is back!
This show is open to all LGBTQ+ residents of Humboldt County, CA, 18+
(under aged folks are allowed at the opening event. They just can't submit work to the show)
As usual, the theme is open (meaning there is no theme). All art themes must be PG13 (no gore, sexual acts etc. Tasteful nudes are okay) as Synapsis is a family friendly location.
Visual and performing art entries welcome (ex: Poetry, drag, dance, musical performance, aerial performance, original costumes, fashion, jewelry, sculpture, drawing, painting, mixed media, print making, photography, etc.). Performers will perform on the day of the opening (there will be a set list with limited space due to time limit. One performance per artist. 5min set up, 5min performance, 5min take down, 15min total. More time will be allowed if needed). 6 guaranteed performance slots.
All work MUST be ready to hang/display when dropped off at Synapsis. You may include a typed & printed artist statement, but it is optional. Folks with costumes may wear their costumes the day of the opening and/or submit a photo of their original costume with a written description/info about the piece (optional). If you wish to display your costume you must provide your own method of display (dummy/mannequin of some sort). Performers must provide their own music and musical equipment. More info on availability of pedestals, sound equipment etc. will be posted as I get it.
There will be LGBTQ themed goodies, snack bags, and canned/bottled drinks available during the opening (while supplies last). Due to covid concerns, no fresh food or open drinks will be served this year (sorry). This is a dry event. No alcohol.
This show will be at the new Synapsis location on Union. They are working hard to make the location accessible, but I can not guarantee that changes being made will be done by the opening. If you need assistance, please ask.
Artwork will be left up for display for one week after the opening. Artists will then need to collect their work on the following weekend.
****Covid rules: any Covid masking rules Synapsis has in place ALL attendees must follow or you will be asked to leave the event. If you have health concerns or conditions, please ware a mask and keep 6ft apart if able. Hand sanitizer and masks will be available. Eat/drink provided snack bags and beverages during the event at your own risk. Take proper precautions. We are not responsible if you get sick.****
****This information is subject to change. More information will be posted as the show draws near. Flyers and submission forms will be printed and posted ASAP. Please remember that this community event is being put together by one person with a small group of volunteers.****
****The person holding the event and Synapsis are not responsible for any lost, stolen, or broken items, but we will do our best to keep things safe. If you do not feel comfortable leaving your work up for the week after the opening, you may take your art home at the end of the opening.****
