Come celebrate Humboldt's rich history with those who write about it!
May is National Preservation Month, and the Clarke Museum and the Humboldt County Historical Society are celebrating with a joint fundraising event featuring local authors who've written and published widely on almost every aspect of our county's history.
Date: May 20th, 2023
Time: 1pm – 3pm
Venue: Clarke Museum, 240 E Street, Eureka
The following authors will be on hand to announce new books and talk about other books they've written:
● Ray Raphael
● Julie Clark
● Barry Evans
● Alex Service
● Susan J.P. O’Hara.
● Lynette Mullen
● Katie Tahja
● Jon Humboldt Gates
● Cutcha Risling Baldy
● Kathleen McCovey
More information about the authors and their books can be found on the Clarke Museum website.
The event opens with a social mixer where attendees will have the opportunity to chat with the authors about their favorite titles and order new books; they can also bring along any books they already have and get them signed on the spot. There will be a panel session with the authors, who will talk about why recording and writing about local history is so important, and there will be plenty of opportunities for questions.
A selection of delicious hors d’oeuvres prepared by local chef Chris Cassaro will be provided, along with free soft drinks, beer, and wine.
Tickets to the fundraiser are $100 each, or $85 for members of the Clarke Museum or the Humboldt County Historical Society, and all proceeds will be shared equally between the two organizations. Tickets are available online at https://www.clarkemuseum.org/meet-the-humboldt-historians.html or by phone from the Clarke at 707-443-1947 or the Historical Society at 707-445-4342.
